Jharoka with lady face

A pretty jharoka made within a wooden framework with Fevicryl Mouldit. Learn how to texture clay in this DIY. A unique concept and theme that makes for an exclusive wall décor accent. It’s ethnic and adds that element of rusticity.

Materials Needed

Fevicryl Acrylic Colours - Black 02, Crimson 04, Dark Brown 05 , Maroon 14 , Ultramarine Blue 23, White 27, Flesh Tint 30, Cerulean Blue 32, Fevicryl Acrylic Colour Pearl Metallic - Gold 352, Fevicryl Mouldit, Fevicryl Fabric Glue, Fine Art Brushes, Wooden Frame 10” x 10” Size, Rolling Pin, Paper Cutter, Clay Carving Tools, Pencil, Colour Palette, Water Container

Step-by-Step Instructions

Take the clay and make a rough-edged rectangle, it needs to be rustic.

Pleat the rectangular clay to make a curtain that’s folded.

Step 3

Arrange and stick the jharoka within the clay border on the frame using Fevicryl Fabric Glue. Refer to the image for accuracy. The fall of the curtains should appear natural and realistic.

Take some clay and shape a feminine face, creating the nose and ears. Use clay carving tools for ease.

Shape a pair of feminine hands with clay, use clay tools to shape the slender fingers.

Place & stick the hands, just like you see in the image (within the wooden framework) using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.

Take some clay coils and create a pattern with floral motifs on the clay border. Stick using Fevicryl Fabric Glue. Let it dry. 

Begin painting the borders Fevicryl Acrylic Colours – Black 02 & Dark Brown 05, the jharoka using Cerulean Blue 32 and the hands with Flesh Tint 30 and Crimson 02 and Maroon 14 (nail paint on the fingers).

Paint the clay border with dry brush strokes using Fevicryl Acrylic Colour Pearl Metallic - Gold 352, to give a metallic and regal look. Paint dots with White 27 on the curtains.

Place and stick the clay face appropriately like you see in the image using Fabric Glue. Paint features for the lady’s face, one that is rustic and earthy. Once done, your ethnically inspired jharoka will look like this.

Take Fevicryl Mouldit – resin base & hardener, mix well to form an even soft dough.

Roll the dough to make a medium thin slab using a rolling pin.

Take the clay and border the insides of the wooden frame using Fevicryl Fabric Glue, just like you see in the image.

Take a wooden frame that’s 10”x 10” in size.
